Lee Alexander McQueen (16 March 1968- 11 February 2010) was an English fashion designer celebrated for his dramatic designs, which were worn by the likes of Björk, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. These designs earned him the British Designer of the Year award four times. He was one of the youngest designers to win the award. He was also awarded the CBE and named International Designer of the Year at the Council of Fashion Designer Awards. Alexander McQueen was found dead on the morning of the 11 February by his housekeeper at his home on Green Street,London W1. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. He died days before London Fashion Week and although he was not scheduled to show, his death has cast a considerable pall over the event. On 18 February 2010, Robert Polet, the president and chief executive of the Gucci Group announced that the Alexander McQueen business would carry on without its founder and creative director. He also added that a McQueen collection would be presented during Paris Fashion Week. Alexander McQueen was an extraordinary designer and he will be sorely missed by fashionistas the world over. |
