| Video Gaming: A Bad Influence By Holly |

Our lives are becoming more and more focused upon computers. Children spend more and more time gazing at computer screens, focused only on passing the final level of Dragon Quest XII. But is this a good thing? Many parents would say that the violent nature of video games is a bad thing. And this is perfectly understandable, as many games have violent themes. Metroid , Madworld, Bioshock and red steel are all popular examples of games focused around shooting as many people as possible, and those are only games focused on fighting. Games like Zelda, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are all games that, though not focused on violence, involve a large amount of using magic, swords and various other methods to kill a variety of beings. But does this mean that children feel like violence is an acceptable part of life? Most children would agree with Ellie, who said “It’s a game, isn’t it. It isn’t like real life.” Children are aware of the difference between video games and reality, and many feel that they are good stress relievers, allowing them to channel their anger without hurting anyone. One student said “Adults act like just because we do something in a game, we immediately think we can do it in reality. That’s just stupid. The problem isn’t us, it’s adults who try and control our lives.” |
